Standing tall in the Eastern District, the hotel is set behind a dark patchwork mesh façade by noted architect Ray Chen.

The industrial, postmodern structure is officially certified as a “green building” and many surrounding trees can be seen through strips of polished glass. In addition to the green spaces endemic to the hotel, the geometric and mysterious form of the building adds intrigue to an otherwise sternly minimalist structure.

Natural light floods many interior spaces, illuminating the myriad materials that were chosen by designer Ray Chen.

Inspired by Francisco Goya’s 19th-century print series “Proverbios”—which is famous for its depictions of dark, surreal scenes—the hotel uses copper, wood, leather, stone, and delicate fabrics to create an aesthetic clearly influenced by the prints. Rooms are uniquely designed and conceptually divided into living, bathing, and sleeping areas, with unexpected quirks that don’t conform to convention.
