Intricately designed to evoke a sense of ease and an all-encompassing “beach house” ambiance, XELA is one of the original properties on this picturesque stretch of Tulum Beach, previously owned by a chic European family who welcomed an array of celebrity guests. During the conversion, Larios carefully preserved the building’s authentic charm while adding communal spaces, a sophisticated bar, a serene spa, and a garden-facing gym, with every suite thoughtfully oriented toward the sea.

Celebrating the intersection of nature, culture, art, and modern design, the hotel gives off a private-residence ambiance that skillfully blends local Mexican influences. The palette is dominated by soft, sand-like hues and warm oranges that create a Tulum-inspired aesthetic and includes organic woods, woven fibers, and stone finishes. The unique sunken design of the lobby and lounge area reimagines traditional spatial layouts, drawing inspiration from Middle Eastern divan rooms.

Nestled within a stylish nearby roadside shack, Los Bowls de Guadalupe presents healthy organic bites, smoothies, and bowls. And NÜ Tulum, also close to the hotel, was mentioned in Mexico’s first Michelin Guide and has been recognized as one of the five best restaurants in Yucatan by Travel + Leisure.
